AI can write formulas, analyse data, explain relationships, draft reports and generate code in many programming languages. On demand, fast and getting better all the time.
But who understands the generated code? Who can trace changes and assess whether the result really does what it is supposed to do? You or, in the end, only another AI?
For people, Excel therefore remains a kind of lingua franca of business. Business users can read formulas, trace calculations, modify models and document them.
That is why Excel will remain an important exchange format for business and financial knowledge within companies, even with AI.
AI may even lead to more Excel models than before. Never has it been so easy to turn an idea into a working model in such a short time.

With AI, Excel may become even more important: as a quick starting point, a modelling tool and an understandable interface between business teams, IT and AI.
The decisive step comes afterwards: turning the model into a robust enterprise application.
And if Excel really does disappear from companies one day, our jobs will probably be gone too.
